A Novice Poetess

I aspired to write in the style invented by Mr. Clerihew, Had I bitten off more than I could chew? They say poems are an expression of the soul, If that is so, mine is just a gaping hole. After several hours of ideation and perspiration, I googled Mr. Clerihew for electrifying inspiration, He had composed his first poem in chemistry class, And created a masterpiece that no one would surpass. Years later, here I am, striving so hard to rhyme! After much deliberation, I concluded why I was bereft and hardly sublime. At school, I memorized equations and worked hard on my chemistry, And though I understand Benzene and Sodium, poetry is still a mystery!
