An Ode to my Mother

In the world of blue, when I craved for pink, She stood by me, not caring what others would think! Amidst toy cars and trains, when I chose dolls, She hung cute barbies all over my walls! In the company of boys, when I felt blue, It stinged her heart, like a pain she already knew! When anklets and bangles mesmerized me more, She filled my wardrobes with trinkets galore! When bob and spiky haircuts made me cringe, She let me have flowy tresses with a fringe! When I started smearing her lipsticks red, “You look just like me!” she instantly said! When she found me adorning her bindi maroon, She kissed my cheeks and seemed over the moon! Draped in her saree, when I gleefully twirled, She rejoiced, just two happy souls lost in their world! At sixteen, when I finally confessed, Donning a smile, she held me close to her chest! In our sweet little world, spring began, When my mother disclosed that she was once a man!     Penmancy gets a small share of every purchase you make through these links, and every little helps us continue bringing you the reads you love!
