The door opened with the chime of the bell, As they walked in, my heart swelled, 'Oh! We missed you' is all that they said, Memories filled my senses and my head. Young love is what I called them, Clad in jeans and chewing sour gum, Settling in a corner, they sipped coffee, She oohed and aahed over baked toffee. 'I like you' they cooed to one another, Over time, their love grew for each other, I witnessed it bloom under my eyes, And as it matured, I could only sigh! A harsh word one day, there she cried, He in turn pled that he never lied, A hush, a lull before she finally relented, Forgiveness soon gave out fragrance scented. And their marriage, a bond that only grew, With babies now, of which there were two, I had seen their love and conversations over time, A grandfather clock I was, well past my prime. ______
