Broken Trails

"What? Is it me? Why?" I see the light in her eyes fade in disbelief;  Hoping to lose this whispered moment in a  Breath, the sky turning an ugly shade of grey. "I listen to the melody and skip the words. My promises are empty, my love, shallow. I hate sunsets and that wasn't my last cigarette." Are my words as cruel as they sound to me? "Your heart, and you deserve better." I push her further down into the abyss. Saying a million prayers as I break her; one Last time, this moment will haunt me until death. With her heart, I hear my world shatter into a Million shards; an endless echo of emptiness. I'm a falling star. And she was the Angel. All I'll ever give her are these burning scars. _______________________________
