Charades

I wake up with a smile and a shudder,
To face a new day with new challenges.
A meal for two, to keep up the charade.
Loud rambling, raised voice and silly banter
To fill the void, the deafening silence.

I leave for work, smiling, bidding goodbye.
No one sees you leave though or return home.
They believe the mirage I’ve created,
A family of two not one, alone,
Its the only way I feel sane and safe.

The world we built, shattered, the day you left,
Desecrating our vows, dreams, promises.
Widowed? Abandoned? Don’t know anymore,
Cursed to wait until hope or life burns out.
