Did You Ever Love Me?

They said you fought valiantly with no fear  They said you looked enemy in the eye Before he put you to sleep forever They brought you home wrapped in the Tricolor They all talked about how brave you had been “You must be proud.” They said enviously I quietly looked at them, in anguish…. Months have gone since I bid you last goodbye They do not come anymore to ask or tell Your heroic deeds are buried deep now inside my lonely heart where I meet you Your wet eyes still hold thousands promises But my distrustful heart wonders if you  Had thought of me before you were martyred?
