Running One More Time

Fragile carcass as brittle as china She remembers running chase down the lane She skipped as a girl, raced as a woman Lifting her skirts to get the most freedom Swift as the wind, none could ever catch her. Age has set up a scaffold of trauma Telling her you are going far too fast Her body stiff like a heavy anchor Don't see the point of skipping to the shops Yet what she wants is the joy of the race. Now to walk she has the aid of one cane But today she carries another staff That forces her legs to move much faster Ah to run free with the wind one more time!
