The Eyes

Those eyes etched on my memory forever That ‘spoke’ as the helpless mouth ‘stared’ from the ventilator Was it asking from his love for one last kiss So his heart could forever rest in peace  Was it asking for one last wish to be fulfilled Before the last breathe from him out slipped Was it asking to help him linger through another spring So the unfinished job to a closure he could bring Was it asking for the warmth of a hug His body had been on life support for way too long Was it asking to let go of all hope To free his soul that was tied to life in a rope Was it asking for the promise to move on To shun all sorrow when he is forever gone
