Waves of Memory

They tug at the strings of my heart, those waves of memory
As I sit with the ocean water lapping at my feet,
Immersed in nostalgic thoughts that wash over me like a reverie.

They clatter and carouse through my mind, like beads of emery
Those thoughts of long ago, they quicken my heart beat.
They tug at the strings of my heart, those waves of memory.

I spy the gold of the sun segue into brilliant ochre shades, all orangey
As I trace hearts in the sand thinking of my love’s defeat,
Immersed in nostalgic thoughts that wash over me like a reverie.

Why O why did it have to end on this note? Why was my love a tragedy?
I ponder as desolate thoughts wash over me, complete.
They tug at the strings of my heart, those waves of memory.

The kaleidoscopic sky tries to lift my mood out of love’s treachery
But my mind is still caught and it does my spirit deplete,
Immersed in nostalgic thoughts that wash over me like a reverie.

I sigh and run my fingers through the grains of sand, soft and feathery
Those wretched thoughts still engulf me, they entreat
They tug at the strings of my heart, those waves of memory,
Immersed in nostalgic thoughts that wash over me like a reverie.
